7 Types of Toxic People That Destroy Your Happiness

Toxic people are a part of all of our lives!

Perhaps you have noticed a high level of toxicity in a romantic partner, a co-worker, a family member, or a close friend.

In the beginning they seemed great! But over time the relationship became draining, un-supportive, nagging, difficult, and self-centered.

It is true that some people are completely unaware that they are coming across as highly negative! But others gain satisfaction from their toxic behavior – bullying and manipulating those around them.

If you allow their toxicity into your life, it will start to ruin your happiness!

The goal of this article is to help you identify the toxic people in your life, so you can distance yourself from them as soon as possible.

Below are 7 types of toxic people that will ruin your life (if you let them)!

1.) THE TWO-FACED FAKE

…one way to your face, another way behind your back.

One moment you are basically “best friends”! You share personal details about your life and completely let them in.

Then, out of nowhere, they stab you in the back!

It leaves you thinking, “WHY?! What did I ever do to deserve this?”

These people are shallow and manipulative by nature. Their low self-esteem causes them to drift from person-to-person, offering information that will make them valuable in the moment.

Often, these people seem incredibly nice and infectious when you first meet them! They come into your life and seem like a breath of fresh air!

When you meet these type of people, make sure to take things very slowly! Make sure that their intentions of friendship are sincere and trustworthy.

Don’t put them in a place of trust and influence in your life until you know that they have a reputation of GOOD CHARACTER!

Otherwise, you may find yourself stabbed in the back, incredibly hurt, and ashamed that you “let them in” so quickly.

Be careful and take your friendship/relationship SLOWLY!

2.) THE LIAR AND EXAGGERATOR

Do you doubt every word that comes out of someone’s mouth?

Do they have a bad name for exaggerating facts, twisting stories, and outright lying?

Yes, exaggeration means that they have a lying problem!

Their dishonesty is going to cause every good person they meet to not trust them and actually start resenting them!

If you find yourself always fact-checking everything they say, they’re probably not someone who is trustworthy!

Are their lies and exaggerations going to effect your friendship/relationship in a negative way?

If so, you may want to distance yourself from them before you are at the receiving end of one of their lies!

3.) THE JEALOUSY-RIDDEN PERSON

Jealousy has a corrosive and toxic effect on a relationship!

Do you know someone who hates sharing you with others? Or maybe you’ve started to notice that they don’t like hearing about your success and accomplishments? Or maybe they are always trying to make you doubt your goals and dreams?

If you start to see signs of envy in your relationship, you need to be very careful!

Jealousy can take over someone’s mind like a disease, causing them to do things that are unbelievably hurtful and selfish.

It can come out of nowhere, turning a trusted friendship into a cesspool of toxic behavior.

Make sure that the people closest to you have your best interest at heart! Otherwise, their jealousy can really take a toll on your LIFE.

4.) THE CONSTANT TAKER

…always taking from you, but never offering anything in return.

You like giving people the benefit of the doubt and trusting that they have your best interest at heart.

But do you know someone that is always asking you for favors, but never offering anything in return?

“Would you do this for me? May I borrow that? Can I have that? May I ask you a big favor?”

If they are a “chronic moocher”, it’s time for them to be made aware of their bad habit!

Some people were raised to be “takers” and don’t know any other way of doing life! But others know EXACTLY what they’re doing and see you as a source of free stuff!

Relationships are a two-way street! Someone can’t “withdraw” from the relationship without ever making a “deposit”. It doesn’t work that way!

If your relationship is “over-drafted” and you feel empty because you are the only one giving, you need to have a serious conversation with them.

Otherwise, it may be time to say, “Bye Bye!”

5.) THE NEGATIVE ONE

No matter what, this person can find something wrong with every single thing in life!

“I’m just a realist!”

“I’m not going to sugar-coat the situation.”

This person actually prides themselves on “being real” about life. In reality, they are chronic mood killers!

They are very judgmental of others, they are sarcastic, they worry constantly, and they spread negativity wherever they go.

If you care deeply about this person, give them a wake-up call! Let them know that people don’t enjoy being around their chronic negativity.

Otherwise, you may need to distance yourself from them.

6.) THE MANIPULATOR & GUILT-TRIPPER

Do you have someone in your life that always makes you feel guilty or inadequate?

A manipulative person is skilled at hijacking your emotions!

If you disagree with them, they will turn the situation around on you. They will make you feel guilty for things that were never your fault in the first place!

If you aren’t doing things the way they want them, they will do anything it takes to make you change your mind.

If you feel like your relationship/friendship is built on guilt and manipulation, it’s time to cut it off!

This person will never let you do anything that they aren’t 100% behind. And if you do make a decision they don’t like, they will make you regret it!

Get out ASAP! It’s not worth your time or energy.

7.) THE MAJOR GOSSIP

Everyone loves the latest news!

But what about that person that is always dishing out gossip – on everything and everyone!

“Did you hear what happened to their marriage?”

“Oh, tell me all about it! Give me all the details!”

“I knew that would happen to her! She was always a nasty person!”

A gossip loves talking about the misfortunes of others. And they don’t care who that person is. It could be you!

They make assumptions, talk about “what-ifs”, laugh at the problems people are going through, and love to discuss things that are absolutely none of their business.

This character quality is draining to be around!

And be assured that they do this same thing to you – behind your back!

Don’t waste your time on this kind of relationship. Walk away because it will effect you.

If you can’t completely get them out of your life, at least do yourself the favor and distance yourself from them.

And don’t worry about offending them or hurting their feelings. If necessary, tell them where you are at.

If there is no change, it’s not worth your time or energy.
